The edited picture vs the unedited moment.

I love taking pictures of real moments in time.

So of course, most of my favorite images I’ve ever taken are of moments I didn’t plan on capturing but rather those that presented themselves to me when I happened to have my camera in hand or nearby.

This moment presented itself to me when I was doing schoolwork in our Airbnb. I looked up and out our window and saw this man pull up to watch the sunset all by himself. I grabbed my camera, ran outside, and took this picture and small clip.

please disregard that I’m posting an end of summer picture in December. I’ve been sporadically going through my photos and stumbled upon pictures from a trip we took to Grindelwald between our two 100+ mile running trips one summer.

A moment in Milan | 1/2022

A lot of times it’s easy to get stuck in our camera.

To go somewhere with an image in mind that we’d like to create and just focus on nailing that shot.

But when we’re so focused on getting that shot, we can miss so many others. Like this one. This picture was a happy accident. A real moment in time. And it’s one of my favorite pictures I’ve ever taken.

When I stopped trying to force a picture of the Duomo, which was ridiculously packed, I saw my guy chilling on the corner across the street from the Duomo watching the chaos. And my mouth dropped open. The light was absolutely beautiful. And this scene was just as interesting as the duomo. So I snapped a couple pictures within less than a minute.

And I’m still obsessed with these. If you look closely, you’ll see people “wearing” mandatory masks and even smoking a cigarette during corona times.
